Do you have what it takes to be an Assistant Editor? Our club is looking to put together a small support team to help the Lead Content Editor run our blog post schedule. If you are good with words, or you want to develop your editing skills and enjoy running writing workshops, this role may appeal to you!

What Does the Editing Team Do?
The Editing Team is overseen by the Lead Editor and the Club Director, and they have their own sub-channel within the primary Teams Group called the Writer’s Hub. While the primary role of the Editing Team is to assist in keeping the submission process moving along, they will also work with general club members to help them build their writing practice! Depending on their experience and preferences, our Editing Team will work on various communication-based initiatives within the club.
What Does an Assistant Editor Do?
Screens submission proposals and adds them to the content calendar for approval.
Advises the Lead Content Editor when new drafts need to be approved or reviewed.
Assists in editing drafts and provides feedback to our student writers.
Acts as a guide for general members, providing updates on the status of their draft.
Helps to create writer workshops and tutorials for regular meetings.
Shares resources and develops stories related to writing for the blog.
Contributes “writing tips” to our Marketing Team for our club’s social media channels.

The Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate for this role includes anyone who wants to develop their editing and communication skills or gain experience managing content workflows for web publishing. We aim to fill our available Assistant Editor roles with students who want to help nurture other members' writing talent. While this role would be best for students in journalism or communications-focused programs, anyone with experience writing or editing is encouraged to apply.
Requirements
Must be a full-time Durham College student.
You must have strong writing skills, with a critical eye for detail.
Ideally, you should be familiar with editing tactics and willing to complete the Academic Writing- Editing SALS Modules if not.
Familiarity with Microsoft Word is a must.

Time Commitment
This is a part-time, volunteer student leadership role. Time commitment varies depending on the number of scheduled projects, with an average of a few hours per week. Responsibilities are shared across the team and completed collaboratively.
