About the DC Blogging Club

The DC Blogging Club was founded to build resources and provide opportunities for students to practice different types of content creation and writing. With a primary focus on blogging, we work together to generate content for our student run blog! We also create social media campaigns that promote student work and develop our presentation skills through on-going meetings that build on our existing communication skills.

While our club is still relatively new to the school, we have already accomplished so much since our founding in January 2025. Going forward, we will continue to work hard to engage with our student community and encourage them to share their voices online!

What We Do

Our club is a great way to get into digital publishing, and it provides you with an opportunity to share your interests with like-minded students through our blog. When you join the club, there are various ways to get involved and participate.

Events

In the DC Blogging Club any student in the club is welcome to propose, lead and run an event with the support of the club. While most of our events are recruitment based, we also regularly host giveaways, like our 2025 Winter Warm Up: Hot Chocolate and Cookie Giveaway.

Contests

Our club loves running interactive and collaborative contests! Our very first contest was a Logo Design Contest, which resulted in the creation of our much-loved club logo. We also ran a Meme & Seek contest which offered $250 in prizes for the safe return of our lost memes, which were hidden across both the Whitby and Oshawa campuses!

As meeting attendance increases, we hope to begin hosting some member-only contests for meeting attendees.

Meetings

Our club hosts a mix of in-person and digital meetings. This year, we will be endeavoring to hold regular meetings on a weekly basis throughout the school year, with less frequent meetings during the summer semester. You are invited to visit our clubs event page to view our upcoming meeting schedule.

Content Creation

By participating in the club, you will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of creative projects including written content, photography, and video projects. Beyond the blog, we also put together social media campaigns and develop educational materials for students. You can explore many creative outlets and work with small groups of students to build pieces for your portfolio.

Guest Blogging

Starting fall 2025, we now also offer guest blogging opportunities for other clubs at Durham College. Members of Durham College clubs can apply to guest post their content on our site, and they will be invited to join an exclusive group hosted on our club website. We hope to make the blogging club website a social hub that helps create collaborative opportunities for our students!

Awards

Currently our club has two awards which we hand out at the end of the school year towards the end of the winter semester. The first award is for the “Most Popular Blog Post” and the second is for “Top Blogging Content Contributor.” These awards were created to honour the club members who participate in club work by contributing content to the blog.

How To Connect With Us

Instagram is our primary social channel, and we use it to share club news, contests and assorted tips! We also have a Facebook and Pinterest page, which we use to share and promote our blog posts. This year, we also plan to begin building a library of educational content on our YouTube page to help students learn more about local resources that would benefit them.

You can also connect with us by using our website. You can check our events schedule to see when meetings are, and you can use our contact form to reach out to us directly.

How To Apply

- Be able to attend all meetings or events

Our Club's Goal

Our club’s primary goal is to give students an opportunity to share what they love and value with other students within the community. The club was created to provide a creative outlet for students to express themselves and work on their communication skills.

Together, we want to develop resources that we can leave behind that will help inspire the next generation of students. By joining our club, you get the opportunity to help achieve this goal by adding your voice to this collaborative project!
