The DC Blogging Club aims to enrich the student experience by fostering a community of aspiring bloggers, providing valuable resources and opportunities for skill development, and creating lasting professional connections. Writers, graphic designers, hobbyists, marketing and business students can all benefit from sharing resources, critiquing each other's work and developing their communication skills.

Our club has been approved to implement a monetization strategy, with all proceeds supporting the student food kitchen. This year, we’re excited to begin putting that plan into action and make our first meaningful contributions.

Membership And Activities

Club Sub-Groups

Within the core group we have sub-groups that help perform specific functions:

Leadership Team: Oversee's key areas of the club, runs meetings and works to achieve specific, role related club goalss.
Marketing Team: Assists the Marketing Coordinator, Content Coordinator and Lead Graphic Designer with marketing initiatives for the club.
Events Team: Helps the Event Coordinator plan and run events at the school.
HR Team: Works with the Club Integration Leader to oversee the club onboarding. These members act as HR Assistants within the group.
Editing Team: Assists the Lead Content Editor in running the blogging post schedule by adding proposed topics to the tracking planner and assisting in the editing process.

Blogging

Blogging with the club is simple. Start by submitting a Blog Proposal Form with your post idea. Once the Lead Content Editor approves it, the story will be added to our content planner. After that, you write your post and submit it through the Blog Submission Form for editing. When revisions are complete and your post is finalized, we’ll schedule it to go live on the blog. If it is your first post, you will be prompted to create a writer bio so we can attribute you content to you!

Meetings

Starting in 2026, we plan to shift to weekly in‑person meetings, with a lighter schedule during the summer semester (to be determined based on leadership availability). We also expect to host a few digital sessions throughout the year to help accommodate different schedules. Recap videos or slides are shared for all meetings that include presentations.

Club Awards

Currently, our club has two writing‑based awards that are presented at the end of the school year, near the end of the winter semester. The first award is “Most Popular Blog Post,” and the second is “Top Blogging Content Contributor.” These awards were created to honour club members who actively contribute content to the blog.

We also recognize our leadership team with certificates that acknowledge their commitment and contributions to the club during their time in leadership roles.

Becoming A Leader

During the general member application process, you will be asked whether you’d like to be notified when there are openings on our leadership team or if you’d like to join one of our internal groups (such as the Marketing Team or HR Team). Whenever there is an opening, we will contact members on our waitlist before opening applications to the public. General openings will be posted on our website and social media (Instagram).

Club Director Role

The role of the Club Director is to oversee the direction of the club, come up with a strategy for the upcoming semester and work on completing the goals and agendas of the blogging club. The Club Director will be playing an active role in networking with the students, teachers and community to build opportunities for club growth and development. As the face of the club, they may be expected to attend events on behalf of the club, meet with the student association and head major club events.

Leadership Requirements

You must be a full-time student studying at Durham College to join the club and become a leader.
You must be willing to help plan and lead meetings.
You will be required to attend a monthly leadership meeting.
You will run your own Instagram account for your leadership role and contribute content to the main @dcbloggingclub account using collabs.
For the role of Club Director and Assistant Club Director, we prefer to choose applicants from within the club, as they are familiar with its structure.

Assistant Club Director

The Assistant Club Director assists the Club Director in running the club, managing the leadership team and mentoring general club members. They also share the responsibility of running club meetings, setting club targets, and measuring the progress of club goals. Together with the Club Director, they network with the school, participate in marketing activities and work to further develop the initiatives started by the club.

Event Coordinator

The Event Coordinator oversees all major club events, working closely with leaders and volunteers while managing every stage of the planning process. Our goal is to host at least one large event each school year, with planning beginning early in the year and the event taking place the following semester. While making this flagship event a success is their primary responsibility, the Event Coordinator also collaborates with the Meeting Coordinator to support smaller member‑led events throughout the semester. Together, they maintain the club’s event schedule, which is shared on our website.

Club Integration Leader

The role of the Club Integration Leader is to develop and maintain a complete on-boarding program that tracks club members stages of development from the moment they apply as a member, to the moment they complete their off-boarding survey. The Club Integration Leader will also play a key role in developing recruitment strategy, maintaining a club member retention policy and creating a succession plan for key roles within the club. They will work closely with the Club Director to ensure students have opportunities to develop their skills and explore their personal interests through their club work!

Lead Graphic Designer

The Lead Graphic Designer's primary role is to network with other club leaders to complete necessary design jobs for the club. The overall goal of this position is to assist with the development of the club aesthetic by coordinating graphics across our social media platforms, website and advertising initiatives. As a leader in the club, they will contribute to modifying design policy and assist in developing posting rules that consider the visual aspect of our clubs brand. As a creator, they will also play a key role in initiatives like recruiting, event promotion and swag development through media-post campaigns and poster development.

Marketing Coordinator

The Marketing Coordinator leads the club’s public relations efforts, focusing on brand development and overall image building. They work closely with the leadership team to shape both internal and external marketing strategies. Internally, they help promote club initiatives within the school; externally, they contribute to our social media planning and blog promotion efforts. This role also collaborates with the graphic design team and with students handling HR‑related tasks who support the club’s recruitment strategy.

Content Coordinator

The Content Coordinator is primarily responsible for reviewing and scheduling student-generated content for publication on the club’s social media platforms. In partnership with the Marketing Coordinator, they help shape and execute the club’s social media strategy. Acting as a liaison between the leadership team and general members, they assist in screening submissions and managing content flow.

As a student mentor, they also contribute to the club manual and meetings by developing training materials and offering practical tips to support fellow members.

Lead Content Editor

The role of the Lead Content Editor is to assist in the editing of content scheduled for publication on the club blog or social media channels. Their role is to ensure that all materials meet the club’s standards for quality and relevance. The Lead Content Editor will work closely with the Content Coordinator to manage the editorial calendar, collaborate with writers and other content creators, and provide constructive feedback to contributors to help them improve their writing. They will also assist the Club Director by reviewing training materials for club meetings and the club manual.

Meeting Coordinator

The Meeting Coordinator is largely an internal role that is a mix of administration and event coordination. They will assist with the scheduling and running of club meetings, monitor the clubs email account and coordinate communication within the club. They will assist with form creation, document collection, surveys and other written correspondence as needed. As a leader, they will also help streamline internal communications, and create guides on how to access certain information or complete specific tasks within the club.

Budget Manager

The clubs Budget Manager will assist us in optimizing our club budget each semester and help us research options to monetize our student run blog. They will be consulted and included in the event proposal process and make sure we do not go over budget on our school funded activities. As a leader, they will also contribute content to the club manual with tips on monetization strategy. This role is ideal for someone with an interest in accounting, but is also beneficial for someone who is genuinely interested in helping us earn money for the student food kitchen at Durham College.

Art Coordinator

The Art Coordinator assists in finding appropriate imagery for the website, directs creative aspects of the club and helps with photography needs. They fill a creative role that collaborates with different areas of the club and they have a lot of creative freedom. If you have experience in photography or art you may excel at this role. A large part of this role will include sourcing images for blog posts, social media posts or marketing materials. They will also develop resources for other "non-artsy" club members to help them find aesthetic solutions for their design projects.
