Each year during the fall semester, the students of the entrepreneurship program participate in a sales event called the Holiday Christmas Market. As part of their final project for their Starting The Business course, they are given a budget to purchase a product, create a sales booth, and promote their products to seasonal shoppers on campus. The goal of the assignment? To earn more than they spent while bringing interesting gift items to market for the Durham community.

“Come check out the Holiday Christmas Market on Thursday November 27th  from 10 AM – 2 PM in the PIT, to purchase unique Christmas gifts and support our second year Entrepreneurship students!” - Professor Marc Ford

With a small budget and big ambitions, the Holiday Christmas Market is a challenge designed to spark creativity amongst our student entrepreneurs. This year there will be sixteen student groups participating, and they will be selling all kinds of seasonal items in the PIT at the Oshawa Campus. As an entrepreneur student, I have behind the scenes access to some of the plans for this season! From spicy candy that was taste tested in the classroom, to a golf mini putt for prizes, I can confirm that there are many creative booths in the works.

Students From Past Holiday Markets

This event gives entrepreneurship students a unique opportunity to develop practical skills related to starting a business. From ideation to bringing their product to market, our entrepreneurship students do it all. If you are on campus on November 27th, be sure to stop by and see what the entrepreneurship students have been up to. It is a terrific opportunity to pick up some holiday presents and support our student entrepreneurs.

This event is run by the students and faculty of the Entrepreneurship and Small Business course. To learn more about the program, visit their program page on the Durham College website.
